Duties and Responsibilities
We are looking for a research fellow to work on a study that will investigate the needs and characteristics of autistic older adults. This groundbreaking project, called AUDIT, is funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust.

Reporting to the Principal Investigators of the project, the successful applicant will join a dynamic team at UCL, a leading UK university with an international reputation for research on both ageing and autism. The wider research team comprises diverse experts from UCL, King’s College London and the University of Exeter. The post holder will set up and coordinate the project in achieving its four main aims:

1.To provide the first estimate of UK autism diagnostic coverage among people aged over 50 years, elucidating inequalities in diagnostic provision;

2.To describe the mental and physical health needs of over 50s diagnosed with autism, and their receipt of healthcare, identifying any autism-related inequalities in provision;

3.To better understand the experiences of over 50s with high autistic traits (including those with no diagnosis); investigating how high levels of autistic traits relate to cognitive and mental health in ageing, and mechanisms underpinning these relationships;

4.To learn about older autistic people’s views on their healthcare needs, facilitators and barriers to diagnosis and support, and how to overcome these barriers.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will be part of a vibrant multidisciplinary team and will work on successful completion of the project from inception to dissemination under direction of the PIs.

You will play a key role in shaping the AUDIT project, including sourcing relevant data from large primary care and general population databases, recruiting older adults for interviews, data analysis, drafting peer reviewed papers and writing reports for the funder.

The setting as well as the opportunities and responsibilities of the post will provide an excellent opportunity for research career development.
Key Requirements
We are looking for someone with excellent quantitative data analysis skills who has experience of working on research projects involving large longitudinal datasets and who has conducted statistical analysis of those data, as well as authoring peer reviewed publications.

You will need to have a PhD in psychology, neuroscience or epidemiology or a professional doctorate in clinical psychology. We will also consider applications from people with relevant experience and publications who are in the last year of their PhD.  You will ideally have an interest in ageing and/or autism research.
